Water permeable, halal nail polish? πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘ŽπŸ½

As nail polishes go there are tons out there! From super cheap to designer brands. So what’s so special about a water permeable, halal nail polish? Well as a Muslim I don’t very often wear nail polishes as I have to do a special wash called Wudhu before I touch my holy book and pray my 5 times a day Salaah. Therefore nail polishes can hinder my Wudu as the water is not able to penetrate through the polish and onto my nails (almost like a waterproof barrier) What about the water permeability factor Sabina? I hear you say. If a nail polish states it is water permeable, that means water should be able to penetrate through the nail polish then onto the nail. Now not only is this fab news for Muslim women but women who wear nail polish on a constant basis are aware that it is important to let your nails ‘breathe’without any polish on, for good nail health (like nail breakage, fungal infections etc) So obviously you can understand why I am excited but at the same time I feel as if this is too good to be true?

To alleviate my doubts I emailed the brand Vivien Kondor and spoke to a lovely lady called Lisa and this is the description she gave of Vivien Kondor nail polishes.

Vivien Kondor Water Permeable Nail Polish is made with a unique colour polymer compound that allows water molecules to penetrate through its micro-pores. Unlike traditional nail polish, water and moisture can penetrate through to the nail bed providing a healthier, breathable environment.

She also attached the halal certificate into the email which I have posted down below! Showing the nail polishes have been approved by the authorities below.

Prior to my email to Lisa, I also carried out my own research on the brand- A small company that was established in 2013. It is a UK based company and puts the voice of customers, as top priorityπŸ‘πŸ½ It was launched by a group of people who have the same passion for beauty. The Vivien Kondor range consists of lipsticks, normal nail polishes, water permeable polishes, skin care, hair care and fragrances!

I only happened to spot this range at my local clothes store! A big display saying ‘water permeable’ and ‘halal certified’ spoke out to me! At Β£4.99 for each bottle, was not something I was used to spending on nail polishes! But I liked sooooo many of the colours that I picked up 6!πŸ™ˆ

I also wanted to say that when purchasing these colours, please open up the packaging as the colour spots on top do not reflect the polish colour! Some are very different to the actual product! However the bottle design is simple and pretty but the box that the polish is in, is a little flimsy and it proves difficult to pull out the bottle from the box! (I must be so cack handed! Lol)

The colours are so well suited for my NC42 skin tone! (Look out for swatches in my next post!) They look great😍 The formula of the polish is runny and slightly thick, so be careful when loading it onto the brush. Suprisingly the formula also dried pretty quickly tooπŸ˜€ The polish applies well and is well pigmented. However I found that without a top coat, the colour did not last well for me. Also please bear in mind that I work with young children so my hands are constantly in and out of the water! I would also say that the polish has a distinctive, traditional nail polish smell.

Now let’s talk about the ‘water permeability’ and ‘halal certified’ aspects of these polishes. I did try googling the the halal authority that has certified the products and it shows up as a Belgian halal authorityπŸ‘πŸ½ I did also email Lisa asking what experiment they carried out to deem the polish water permeable and this is the experiment she gave me

The water permeability test:

β€’ Step 1: Place one coat of nail varnish on a small area of paper towel. (Allow to completely dry)

β€’ Step 2: Place another paper towel underneath to help confirm the results

β€’ Step 3: Using an eyedropper, place two drops of water in the centre of the dried nail varnish (slightly blend for 30 to 60 seconds)
β€’ Step 4: Confirm results by checking the bottom of the paper towel and it should be wet/damp. The second piece of paper towel may be damp.

β€’ To see best results comparing this with one of our non-water permeable colours would show the differences (e.g. faster drying and water permeability results)
To ensure all nail varnishes are water permeable, we conduct the water permeability test for every nail varnish colour in each batch made, with comparing this to our non water permeable range to guarantee the results are correct. Keep in mind, this only applies to only one coat of polish and has not been tested with base or top coats.

The brand also ensured me that The polish does NOT contain toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or camphor, which can all hinder water permeability.

Now I remember when the Inglot brand introduced their breathable polishes and many youtubers and bloggers carried out similar water permeable tests with different means of filter paper. So using that as a check list and Lisa’s info, I decided to carry out my own test on these polishes……

Stay tuned for the results guys as they will be up tomorrow, Wednesday 19th January 2016 @9pm British Time! I was going to post the swatches and results in this post but it’s too long and I wanted to double check my experiments, so I can do a fair testπŸ‘πŸ½

Has anyone else tried these polishes from the Vivien Kondor range? If yes, what are your thoughts? Would love to hear from you! See you tomorrow😊

    • Yes I have tried rubbing this polish and no water permeated through. I must post the results of this test. However at the minute I am loving peelable nail polish! So much easier! less hassle and it is quick and effective as well x
